Biotechnology training conducted for Camarines provinces

Pili, Camarines Sur (15 November) -- The Biotech for the Media and Advocacy Resource Center (BMARC) spearheaded the Training on Biotechnology for some 100 town/provincial officials of the two Camarines provinces last November 8-9 at the Capitol Complex, here.
The trainees, who came from the agricultural, fisheries, health, business sector, NGOs, LGUs, and the academe were given opportunities to explore economic opportunities and other advantages of biotechnologies.
Co-sponsored by government offices, specifically by the Department of Agriculture (DA) and the local government units of Camarines Sur and Camarines Norte, the training was aimed to bring the knowledge and transfer of technologies on Organizational Building and Enterprise Development on Biotechnology throughout the nation.BMARC program director Joel Paredes said "Biotechnology is our passport to progress."
Paredes said farmers who adopted strategies on agricultural biotechnology had tripled their farm produce. "Coconut farmers attest to it as their profits doubled due to coco biotechnologies."
Some of the noted scientists who participated at the two-day seminar-workshop as resource speakers included: Dr. Saturnina Halos, Technology Advisory Committees on Biotechnology, DA; Dir. Aliora Ilage, Biotechnology Program, DA; Eng'r. Danilo Manayaga, president, SECURA International; Dra. Judith Rodriguez, Center chief, Albay Research Center, PCA; Dr. Edita Burgos, executive director, BMARC; Prof. Tex Gabu, U.P. and Ms. June Rodriguez, BMARC.
Camarines Sur Govenor L.Ray Villafuerte and Camarines Norte Gov. Jesus O. Typoco, Jr. in delivering the keynote messages lauded the training project, together with Nabua town mayor Fer Simbulan, Chairman of the League of Municipalities of Camarines Sur. (PIA Cams. Sur)
