LTO Seeks Inclusion of Driving, Traffic Lessons in Elementary Curriculum
LEGAZPI CITY, Feb. 10 - Land Transportation Office (LTO) Bicol regional director Ramon Roco is pushing for the inclusion of driving and traffic lessons in the curriculum specifically in elementary level.
"This is in order for our children to learn about the right traffic rules and policy at the early stage," director Roco said.
He explained that traffic accident in the country continues to occur due to undisciplined drivers despite training and orientation given by the Land Transportation Office (LTO).
"It is better to inculcate to the young rather than to the old on how to avoid traffic accidents and to become a good abiding driver," Roco said.
Aside from inclusion in the curriculum, director Roco also asked the Department of Transportation and Communication (DOTC) to issue a circular requiring all applicants for driver's license to enroll in driving school. "These are the two options, to include in the curriculum the driving rules or require applicants to enroll in the driving school to learn."
Roco said that behavior of a driver is a big factor that contributes to traffic accidents. "They understand the law, traffic rules, but still they violate [them]."
He also urged all local government units to review their local ordinances related to traffic rules within their localities.
Roco also said that the implementation of motor vehicle inspection center is now being implemented to ensure the road worthiness of a public vehicle. (PNA)
