Iriga City Celebrates 41st Charter Foundation

IRIGA CITY (31 August) - - Iriga City is celebrating its 41st Charter Foundation Anniversary on Thursday (Sept. 3) this year.

Department of Interior and Local Government (DILG), Secretary Ronaldo Puno is this year's guest of honor in the City's Foundation rites.

Puno together with City officials led by Iriga City Mayor Madelaine Alfelor-Gazmen will lead the award ceremonies of the "2009 Sumagang Awardees" at the City Ceremonial Grandstand on the morning of Sept. 3.

Given every three years, the "Sumagang Awards" is a citation conferred to outstanding Irigueños, who have excelled in their respective fields of endeavors and contributed enormously to the development of the city.

The Charter anniversary, highlighted by the "Sumagang Awards" is participated by members of the Sangguniang Panglungsod, 36 barangay chiefs, 4th district Congressman of Cam. Sur, Felix R. Alfelor Jr. (a resident of Iriga City), and respective presidents of the two local universities: University of Saint Anthony (USANT) and the University of Northeastern Philippines (UNEP).

This year's charter celebration will treat residents of this city to a colorful military and civic parade; exhibition of USANT and UNEP bands and majorettes; a testimonial lunch for "Sumagang Awardees"; and a majorettes competition.

Other activities from Sept. 3 to Sept. 6, are the: "Agnieska Ballet Arts Concert"; launching of the Citizens Charter; and the "First Mayor Alfelor-Gazmen Shooting-Fest". (SONNY SALES)
