Peñafrancia Tennis Club: Newest Sports Club in Naga City

NAGA CITY July 27, 2009 - Induction of charter officers at the Naga City Civic Center today ushers in the blooming of a new lawn tennis club in Naga City--officially called the Naga City Peñafrancia Tennis Club, Inc. With over 50 members, the new club will have the 3-court-clubhouse facility of the Naga City Civic Center Complex, owned by the Naga City government, as its home base.

The induction ceremony starts off with former Naga City councilman and now secretary to the city mayor, Joe Grageda, giving the welcome remarks in behalf of the city government.

Atty. Eusebio Alvina, President of the Integrated Bar of the Philippines Camarines Sur Chapter, inducts the charter club officers: Tony Grageda, president; Edgar Rubio, vice-president; Atty. Bong Imperial, secretary; Vic Alano, treasurer; Nestor Garchitorena, auditor.

The elected board of directors includes Msgr. Romulo A. Vergara, Dr. Hector Mangente, Atty. Boboy Torallo, Engr. Gilbert Romero, Col. Jess Placides, Manny Magadia, Benjamin "Jajang" Britanico, Jr., and Mike Matias.

Designated as advisers are Jimmy Sison, Paul Gregory, Joe Grageda and Col. Arnel Cervantes---all pioneers and benefactors of lawn tennis in Naga.

By arrangement with the City Hall, Peñafrancia Tennis Club shares upkeep responsibility of the tennis complex with an older club that is also hosted in the same venue, the An Maogmang Lugar Tennis Club. The two clubs, in the spirit of friendly coexistence, may co-host major tennis tournament or send out unified delegation to tennis competitions as Team Naga.
