WIMBLEDON, England (July 1, 2011) — By reaching the Wimbledon final Novak Djokovic, not only will have the chance to win the tournament of his boyhood dreams but he secured the world's no. 1 ranking in tennis as well.
On Monday, Djokovic will be the top-ranked player in the world, replacing defending champion Rafael Nadal who will also be his opponent at the Wimbledon men's final.
It will be the first time in 7 years that the no. 1 ATP ranking is not held by either Nadal or Federer.
This will also be the first time that Djokovic has reached Wimbledon final. He beat Jo-Wilfried Tsonga 7-6 (4), 6-2, 6-7 (9), 6-3 in the semi-finals.
Few hours later, Nadal beat Andy Murray 5-7, 6-2, 6-2, 6-4 in the other semi-final match.
Djokovic started the year by winning 41 straight matches, but he lost to Roger Federer in the French Open semifinals.
“I’ve been working all my life for this. I’ve been dreaming about playing the finals of Wimbledon since I started playing tennis when I was 4. To be able to be there on Sunday will probably be the best feeling,” said Djokovic. (From philstar.com)
