MANILA, Philippines (Nov 23, 2011) – Finding probable cause, a  fact-finding panel of the Office of the Ombudsman has recommended the filing of graft charges against former first gentleman Jose Miguel Arroyo for involvement in the allegedly anomalous second-hand choppers purchase by the Philippine National Police (PNP) in 2009.

The panel said Mike Arroyo has liability for "undue injury to the government" and "for entering into a contract grossly disadvantageous to government."

This is something we can’t ignore,” said Justice Secretary Leila de Lima in an ambush inerviews as she confirmed receiving information on an alleged plan of former President and now Pampanga Rep. Gloria Macapagal-Arroyo to seek political asylum abroad to evade prosecution over a string of criminal cases including plunder and poll fraud

De Lima said she has received a tip that one of the countries being considered by Arroyo is the Dominican Republic, where an investment of $10 million to $30 million can reportedly make one eligible for permanent resident status...

MANILA, Philippines (Nov. 8, 2011) - Justice Secretary Leila de Lima thumbs down former President and now Pampanga Rep. Gloria Macapagal-Arroyo's multi-destiantion travel abroad as the Justice secretary notes that the GMA will be going to at least three countries with no extraditon treaty with the Philippines, her travel is of indefinite duration and aside from medical treatment the former President shall also attend international conferences in the US and Switzerland.

"There is no compelling reason or immediate necessity for the former president to seek medical treatment abroad," announced De Lima. The announcement came after De Lima's trip to Malacañang early today...

MANILA, Philippines (Nov 5, 2011) - Nine former officials of the Philippine National Police (PNP) will spend 6 to 10 years in jail after the Sandiganbayan convicted them of graft in connection with the ghost purchase of P38.2-million worth of combat uniforms and equipment in 1992.

Among those convicted of graft were former PNP logistics command (LogCom) chief Director Everlino Nartatez, then service store system administrator, Senior Superintendent Alejandro Espiritu Jr., former Logcom procurement center chief, Superintendent Obedio Espena, and former chief of the directorate for materials Superintendent Alejandro Camello.

MANILA, Philippines (Nov 2, 2011) – Sibling rivalry over money is thought to have resulted in the killing of 23-year-old actor-politician Ram Revilla (Ramgen Jose Bautista in real life) and 2 of his younger siblings have been nabbed and charged for conspiring to kill him last Oct 28.

Ma. Ramona Belen Bautista, 20; and Ramon Joseph Bautista, 18, were charged with murder together with five others accused of helping them execute the killing in the Bautista residence in BF Homes, Parañaque.

“The motive is personal,” city police chief Senior Superintendent Billy Beltran said without elaborating.

MANILA, Philippines (June 13 2011) — Globe Telecom announced Saturday that  its network transport backbone nationwide has been upgraded and fully compliant with the fourth generation of cellular wireless standards, or 4G.

The upgrade is part of Globe's US$500 million capital expenditures this year and is expected to result in improved network coverage and better services even during extreme weather disturbances.

The intensity of the attacks suggested a return to the kind of heavy NATO bombardment that hit military installations across the capital on Tuesday and flattened major buildings in leader Moammar Gadhafi's sprawling compound in the center of the city. Government officials did not say what had been targeted in the Thursday bombing runs.

Engineer Contancio Toledano, the Division Chief for Operation of the PNR, confirms that the PNR Management shall impose minimal fare increase, yet to be finalized,  because the present 0.80 peso per kilometer rate is no longer sustainable.
