Tropical Storm Sendong (International name: Washi) intensified overnight and is expected make landfall this afternoon (approx 1-2 PM local time) near Bislig City in Surigao del Sur and still endangers the rest of Northern Mindanao and the Southern Visayas.
As of 6:00 AM today (Friday, Dec 16), the center of Sendong was spotted 265 kilometers (km) East Souteast of Bislig City, Surigao del Sur or 375 km East Souteast of Butuan City or at coordinates 7.5º North Latitude 128.6º East Longitude. The tropical storm now packs a centerwind of 75 kilometers per hour and gustiness up to 95 kph and was moving directly Westward at 31 kph towards the Surigao Del Sur-Agusan Del Sur provinces.
Sendong is expected to make landfall over Surigao Del Sur this afternoon (Friday) and cross Agusan del Sur.
It will then move across the Northern portion of Bukidnon and pass very close to Cagayan De Oro this evening.
By early Saturday morning, Sendong shall be in the vicinity of Zamboanga Del Norte - passing very close to Dipolog City, and will be moving across Southern Palawan early Sunday.
This storm will move out of the Philippine Area of Responsibility (PAR) Sunday night or early Monday morning.
The Philippine Atmospheric Geophysical and Astronomic Services Administration (PAGASA) has raised typhoon signal no. 2 over the Leyte provinces, Camotes island, Bohol, Surigao provinces, Siargao & Dinagat islands, Agusan provinces, Misamis oriental, Camiguin, Bukidnon, Davao del Norte, Compostela valley, Samal island, & Davao Oriental. These areas will experience stormy weather today (with winds not exceeding 100 kph for #02). Coastal waters will be rough to very rough and extremely dangerous to all types of seacrafts.
Typhoon signal no. is now in effect over Sorsogon, Ticao island, Masbate, Samar provinces, Biliran island, Panay, Guimaras, Negros provinces, Cebu, Siquijor island, Northern Cotabato, Davao del Sur, Lanao provinces, Misamis Occidental, & Zamboanga provinces. These areas will have rains and winds of not more than 60 kph today. Coastal waters will be moderate to rough.
