MANILA, Philippines (Nov 5, 2011) - Nine former officials of the Philippine National Police (PNP) will spend 6 to 10 years in jail after the Sandiganbayan convicted them of graft in connection with the ghost purchase of P38.2-million worth of combat uniforms and equipment in 1992.

Among those convicted of graft were former PNP logistics command (LogCom) chief Director Everlino Nartatez, then service store system administrator, Senior Superintendent Alejandro Espiritu Jr., former Logcom procurement center chief, Superintendent Obedio Espena, and former chief of the directorate for materials Superintendent Alejandro Camello.

The result of the investigation was supposed to be released Friday last week but PNP chief Director General Raul Bacalzo gave the Directorate for Investigation and Detective Management (DIDM) a 48-extension that ends today.

Interior and Local Government Secretary Jesse Robredo announced today that he has ordered the filing of charges against Director George Piano, Senior Superintendent Loi Saligumba, Senior Superintendent Nolan Antonia and Superintendent Edgar Bataan - all of the Philippine National Police (PNP).

Naga City (June 21, 2011) – In reaction to Governor Villafuerte's opposition to his appointment as the Police Provincial Director of Camarines Sur, Police Senior Superintendent Procopio Lipana  said that anytime he can pack up his things and leave his office here as if they do not want him to work here.

His assignment here is not a big deal. He can depart from this place anytime if they do not want him to work here.

This was the statement issued by Police Senior Superintendent Procopio Lipana during a media conference when asked about his reaction on Governor L-Ray Villafuerte’s opposition to his appointment as Provincial Police head of Camarines Sur.

PNP Regional Director Cecilio Calleja Jr. has ordered Senior Superintendent Victor Deona to head Task Force Olea, which shall focus on the investigation of the mediaman ‘s killing.

Olea was the second media man killed after the May 2010 elections.
