Bongat flares up over police inefficiency

Naga City (July 18, 2011) - City mayor John Bongat has expressed disappointment over the poor performance of Philippine National Police (PNP) Naga City in preventing crimes despite of the support given them by his office.

He called the PNP’s attention to the series of robbery hold-up here particularly those carried out by attackers riding motorcycle in tandem victimizing unsuspecting civilians for the past days.

The city mayor flared up during flag raising ceremony this morning and castigated the sloppiness of the PNP personnel in resolving and preventing the series of robbery hold-up.

“Do not drag us into shame and do something to resolve the crimes here”, Bongat said.

Bongat noted the increase in motorcycle riding robbers upon the assumption of PS/Supt. Roberto Fajardo as the new PNP City Director.

Last Saturday, Bert Loquinario, a media practitioner at Radyo ng Bayan, was victimized by a hold- upper riding a motorcycle while on the way home from his work. The suspects carted away his bag with laptop computer, cell phone and other valuable belongings.

Roy San Ramon, another media practioner, became a victim of theft when his cell phone kept at the U-box of his motorcycle got lost while his vehicle was parked at the Basilica ground.

However, Mayor Bongat is still counting on the ability of the PNP in preventing crimes but likes them to step up.

Meanwhile, the Naga City council is set to invite PS/Supt. Bong Fajardo in its regular session Tuesday to lay down his crime prevention program as PNP head. PS/Supt. Fajardo has temporarily assumed the post left by PS/Supt. Vert Chavez who was promoted to the position of Chief Superintendent. (With reports from Noriel Oya)
