NAGA CITY (Oct 24, 2011) - A construction firm implementing a drainage project in this city could be facing charges of negligence after two of its workers died and two others were injured when an 8-meter deep excavation at a project site caved in and buried the victims.

The project's contractor, 4GM Construction firm based in Antipolo City, has not made a public statement on the tragedy. But sources from the city hall say the construction company has administrative and civil liabilities and the city government itself may file the appropriate charges...

In a press briefing, Naga City Mayor John Bongat confirmed that the 4th Division of the Appellate Court has disposed of the ejectment case filed by the heirs of Don Macariano Mariano, the property donor, against the city government.

NAGA CITY (July 22, 2011) – Two of the suspects in a series of holdups carried out by motorcycle-borne robbers riding in tandem turned out to be army soldiers still active in military service.

City officials led by Mayor John Bongat and newly installed OIC-City Police director, Sr. Supt. Roberto Fajardo presented to the local media Wednesday (July 20) Private First Class (PFC) Randy Miguellas Alsmael, 26, and PFC Fermin Cereno Sayno, suspects of “riding–in–tandem armed-robbery” in this city.

According to Mayor John Bongat, the city government has released P150 to each tricycle franchisee in the city following the order of the president to implement the Pantawid Pampasada program that aims to attenuate, at least temporarily, the ill effects of uncontrolled oil price increases.

Breaking his silence, city councilor Salvador del Castillo who heads the committee of Games and Amusement, candidly reveals that he personally favors the operation of legal gambling here, particularly the Small Town Lottery that he believes could reduce or weaken the proliferation of the illegal numbers game known as jueteng.

Naga City, (May 3, 2011) - Eight months after the Supreme Court's third division ruled with finality that Plaza Rizal belongs to Naga City, not to the province of Camarines Sur, the provincial government still controls and manages the important city landmark. In a gesture of goodwill and amiability, Mayor John Bongat who is a lawyer likes to wait it out to allow the provincial capitol to turn over the property amicably. The city councilors are more impatient and has filed a resolution requesting the mayor to file in court a writ of execution for a forced turn-over.

Naga City, (May 2, 2011) – Naga Mayor John Bongat has ordered PNP City Director Vert T. Chavez to stop all kinds of gambling within the city's jurisdiction. According to Mayor Bongat, his administration does not tolerate any kind of illegal gambling, consistent with the main thrust of his administration.

A permanent art gallery will be placed at Naga City Coliseum so that Bikolano artists will have a place to exhibit their masterpieces and other artworks. This facility will help art and culture to flourish in the city.
