I was delighted to realize that in the recent graduation ceremonies of the Ateneo de Naga University, the Valedictory Address was given by a female student, Ms. Sheanly Plofino and the Commencement Speech was delivered by another woman, Ms. Regina Paz Lopez. I think such is timely especially that March 8, 2011 marked the 100th Anniversary of Women’s Day.

Reproductive health” (RH) appears laudable, especially if avowed to help our poverty-challenged people or provide care, information, and other assistance for well-being. Who doesn’t want to be healthy, particularly among our women who bring new life to the world?

But as always, the devil is in the details. If we examine the entire consolidated RH Bill 4244, it totally disregards the unborn. You don’t even find the word “unborn.” On this score, the bill is unconstitutional for it obviously violates Equal Protection.

The senator said penal provisions had rendered the existing law inutile in the face of the series of carjacking and had allowed criminal syndicates to carry out the criminal activity with ease.

Rodolfo Diamante, executive secretary of the CBCP’s Commission on Prison Pastoral Care, stressed that the country’s dysfunctional justice system may lead to the conviction of the wrong person.

“With the kind of justice system we have, only the poor people will be penalized,” Diamante said.

Rosal claimed that pirated DVD, CDs are everywhere in commercial stores, stalls.

"They sell like hot cakes, people buy a lot of these pirated stuff at the expense of the original producers that invested millions film making and recording,” she lamented.
