BANGKOK, April 24 (PNA/Xinhua) -- The US Secretary of State Hillary Clinton had expressed confidence in Thailand's politics and hoped the Thai government would be able to restore stability, Thai Foreign Minister Kasit Piromya said Friday.
Kasit met with Clinton during his official visit to Washington this week to boost the bilateral tie, the website by The Nation newspaper reported.
Speaking to Thai reporters in Thailand through teleconference, the Thai Foreign Minister said: "Madame Clinton has expressed her confidence in what Thai Prime Minister Abhisit Vejjajiva is doing and leading the Thai society."
Also, the US Secretary of State hoped that the democracy in Thailand would grow, said Kasit.
Kasit briefed Clinton that the Thai government was moving forward the national reconciliation and would amend the 2007 Constitution to be more democratic.
Meanwhile, both also discussed about regional issues, including Burma and the Thai relations with Cambodia.
Clinton had confirmed that she would join the ASEAN Ministerial Meeting and ASEAN Regional Forum in Thailand in July, Kasit said.
In a related development, the government officially announced on Friday through a state-owned television that the government had lifted the state of emergency imposed earlier in Bangkok and some districts of five nearby provinces, effective from 12.00 local time (0500 GMT), Friday.
