NAGA CITY (Aug 25, 2011, 8:00 A.M.) - Typhoon Mina (International Name: Nanmadol) drifts West-Northwest threatening the Batanes Group of Islands as it continues to bring moderate to heavy rains in Eastern Luzon. Rain forecast near the center is a high 510 millimeters.
As of 6:00 A.M. today its center was located 341 kilometers North-Norheast of Catanduanes or 384 East of Casiguran, Aurora at coordinates 16.3º North Latitude 125.7º East Longitude with maximum strength of 120 kilometers per hour (kph) near the center and gustiness up to 150 kph. It is moving West-Northwest at 9 kph towards the North Philippine Sea.
Mina's forecast outlook has changed today as it bends more westerly and is now expected move on a slow NNW track, bringing it a little closer to the eastern coast of Northeastern Luzon (Cagayan including the Batanes Group of Islands). This weather system will continue to gain strength within the next 2 days because of favourable atmospheric environment aloft.
This weekend, Typhoon Mina is likely to interact in a Fujiwhara Effect with the developing cyclone (97W) located to the Northwest of Guam. In this scenario, effects to the Philippines will be minimal, limited to inducing or pulling the Southwest Monsoonal Flow and bringing scattered to occasional rains, squalls w/ thunderstorms across the western sections of Luzon & Visayas.

This afternoon, Typhoon Mina is expected to intensify to 140 kph when it passes 395 kilometers East of Casiguran, Aurora.
Tomorrow afternoon it shall be locted 310 kilometers East of Aparri, Cagayan with center wind approaching 175 kph.
Mina shall reach its maximum strength at 185 kph Saturday morning when it becomes a major category 3 typhoon while passing about 305 kilometers East of Calayan Islands, Cagayan.
Mina is an average-sized tropical cyclone with a diameter of 465 kilometers (250 nautical miles).
