Since ancient times, lions have been considered as the king of forests and a symbol of royalty. In Hindu mythology, the lion is known as a Vahan of Goddess Durga. It has been showcased in many ancient sculptures in Indian temples as well. It is a part and parcel of our life because Government of India has stamped the picture of lion on every note we use. It also embellishes our national emblem. Next time you plan your India Wildlife Tour, take a message along that these wonderful animals and birds need our protection. Let me tell you about a recent report about declining number of Asiatic Lions in India.
A very reputed newspaper, "The Hindu" encapsulates the sad story of disappearing Asiatic Lions. Asiatic lion is amongst five other subspecies of lions like the Bengal Tiger, the Indian Leopard, the Snow Leopard, the Clouded Leopard and Asiatic Lion. The grieving fact is that Asiatic Lion have been reduced in number due to human being's excessive greed of hunt, increase in the degree of water pollution and the lack of natural prey in forests.
The first thought which comes to a person's mind thinking of an India Wildlife Tour is whether they get to see a lion or not? This question is perfectly valid in today's time when Asiatic Lions are on the verge of desertion.
A report in "The Hindu" presented by P. Jeganathan, a Coordinator with the Nature Conservation Foundation, Mysore confirms that 'in India the Asiatic Lion lives only in the Gir National Park and Sanctuary, Gujarat.' He further asserts that 'The Asiatic Lion is classified as one of the most endangered mammals in India. There are just 360 of them left in the wild.' Scientists warn that 'any fatal outbreak of disease and natural disaster would surely wipe out the only global population of the Asiatic Lion.'
The ball is in your court now. Would you like to take the pleasure of seeing an Asiatic Lion before it evaporates from the Indian wildlife completely? HTO India presents a fifteen day 'Wildlife Tour of Gujarat' to make sure that you hear the roar once again and experience how it feels to watch a lion before your very own eyes. An expert naturalist's guidance is provided on the trips to dense forests to discover splendid animals with assured safety.
In addition to that, The Forest Department does arrange lion shows every Sunday, where the spectators can watch prides of lions on the hunt.
