3 Army Soldiers Receive Globe Education Grants

NAGA CITY, Feb. 10 - Three Philippine Army soldiers in Bikol were recipients of the Globe Telecommunications education grants in a recently held Philippine Army 9th Infantry Division Service Awards ceremonies held at Camp Elias Angeles, Pili, Camarines Sur.

The awardees were First Lieutenant Wilbert Basquiñas, Private First Class Rene Belga, and CAFGU Active Auxiliary Mark Apollo Perias of the 9th Infantry Division.

Each received P20,000 education grant from Globe to support the education of their dependents.

Globe initiated the education grants in recognition of the gallant efforts of the Philippine Army in maintaining security, peace, and development all over the country.

"Through these educational grants, Globe hopes to provide the service awardees an opportunity to secure a brighter future for their loved ones," Globe Corporate Social Responsibility head Jeffrey Tarayao said.

The 9th Infantry Division led by Major General Ruperto Pabustan is a key partner of Globe for its disaster response and relief operations in the Bikol region.

At the height of Mayon Volcano's eruption last December, the 9th ID together with the various local government units in Bikol assisted Globe in the establishment of Libreng Tawag centers for the evacuees.

The division also supported Globe in one of its biggest relief efforts during Typhoon Reming in 2006.

The regional educational grants program for Infantry Division services is a nationwide project of Globe's corporate social responsibility (CSR) arm Globe Bridging Communities in partnership with the Philippine Army.

Three service awardees - an officer, an enlisted personnel, and a Citizen Armed Forces Geographical Unit (CAFGU) personnel were handpicked by the Philippine Army to receive the Globe education grants based on the following criteria - display of courage and valor in the line of duty; diligent observance and prompt and effective carrying out of responsibilities; and constant exhibition of community centeredness in the execution of his mandate.

The program is part of Globe's CSR efforts geared towards putting up sustainable development projects in the various communities that it serves. (PNA)
