UNEP Performing Arts Ensemble Gives Honor to INA

Tuesday, September 22nd, 2009

As a fitting tribute to the upcoming celebration of the 300 years of devotion to our most revered Ina, the Patroness of Bikolandia, the highly acclaimed performers of the University of Northeastern Philippines' Performing Arts Group, danced and offered every sway of their hands in a loving gesture of faith and devotion in one of their best performances.

The momentous event took place at the Plaza Quezon, Naga City on September 17.  Dubbed as "Pag Omaw ki Ina", the cultural performance was meant to remind all the Marian Devotees of the enduring significance of keeping our faith alive in the midst of earthly and material temptations.

As expected, the UNEP Performing Arts Ensemble had perfectly executed a tribute, apt for every devotee's unwavering faith and love to Mama Mary.  After enticing the audience with UNEP Chorale's opening number, members of the performing arts wowed the viewers and passersby with the execution of Sta. Clara Devotional Dance, Pandanggo Rinconada, Jotabal and Abarirang.

Side by side with the world renowned UNEP Chorale, the presentation indeed became a sight to watch.  Other performances that significantly marked the evening was UNEP Chorale's rendition of Tangeando, Beh Buti Nga, and Rosas nin Pagkamoot; UNEP Performing Arts presentation of the dance Saguin-Saguin, Magurka Boholana and the modern interpretation of Sarong Baggui.

The UNEP Dance Troupe also had their share of performances with the lively execution and interpretation of Jota Gunaquena, Paso Doble, Pastores and modern dance.

The UNEP Performing Arts was already cited for their significant performances in various competitions. They have received accolades for their grand slam win during the Tinagba Festival Mardi Gras Street dance contest and have brought honor to their university thru countless guest performances all throughout the region.

With the UNEP Performing Arts taking the center stage once again, UNEP President Atty. Remelisa Alfelor-Moraleda can't help but take pride in this noteworthy presentation. "Ever since I was a child, our dear Wawa, had already instilled in us the importance of keeping our devotion to Mama Mary, not just during her feast, but in almost every walk of our life. As the celebration for the 300 years of our devotion draws nearer, the more that we feel blessed and honored that we have INA as our Mother."

Mama Mary's strong presence in the Alfelor's life was inspired by Wawa's deep devotion to the Blessed Virgin.  Every Sunday, she would go to church without fail.  Her presence in religious organizations is also a great proof of how strongly she manifests her deep religiosity, and she only not share it to her immediate family but to a much bigger family, the UNEP Community.
