NFA floods local market with “iron rice” to counter malnutrition

PILI, Camarines Sur (Dec 17, 2011) – The provincial branch of the National Food Authority (NFA)  has flooded the public markets in this province with nearly 11,000 bags of “Iron-fortified-rice”  to address the high incidence of malnutrition particularly among children in this province.

NFA Camarines Sur assistant provincial manager Nora Folosco said that NFA has a national mandate to reduce malnutrition in Camarines Sur, considered among Bicol provinces with highest malnutrition cases based on UNICEF findings.

Bicol is one of the three regions in the country prioritized by the national government in addressing malnutrition.

Folosco said that in the last quarter of 2011, the NFA allocates 34,655 bags of “Iron-rice” to Bicol, with 10,950 bags to be distributed in local markets in Camarines until December this year. (SONNY SALES)
