MANILA, Philippines (June 8 2011) - After getting neglected for more than 3 decades, Bicol Express fully resumes plying the Bicol-Manila railway route starting June 29 this year.

Presidential Spokesperson Edwin Lacierda issued a press release today confirming what Philippine National Railway (PNR) manager Junio “Jun” Ragrario announced two weeks ago - that regular train trips from Manila to Naga City shall roll again starting on June 29, one month ahead of schedule.

Arroyo couple sued over NBN-ZTE scandal

MANILA, Philippines (Dec. 30, 2011) - The Office of the Ombudsman filed graft cases against former President Gloria Macapagal-Arroyo, her husband Jose Miguel Arroyo and two former officials in connection with the NBN-ZTE scandal that errupted in 2007.

The NBN-ZTE deal became a by-word that refers to the aborted $329-million national broadband network (NBN) deal between her administration and ZTE Corp. of China and was a subject of a senate investigation.

Naga City  (May 6, 2011) – Trains, the most cost-effective of all means of land transportation,  will not be spared from the ill effects of continued oil price increases as the Philippine National Railways (PNR)  imposes fare hike in the middle of May this year.

Engineer Contancio Toledano, the Division Chief for Operation of the PNR, confirms that the PNR Management shall impose minimal fare increase, yet to be finalized,  because the present 0.80 peso per kilometer rate is no longer sustainable.

MANILA — After nine years of neglect under former President Gloria Macapagal-Arroyo, expectations among overseas Filipino workers were high when the Aquino administration was installed.
Arroyo’s nine year rule left some 7,000 Filipino migrant workers jailed, more than 10,000 stranded in the Middle East alone, 108 in death row and six beheaded. Arroyo’s waning months as president could have provided President Benigno S. Aquino III a bird’s eye view of the hardships that OFWs went through.
