MANILA, July 18, 2011— The Parish Pastoral Council for Responsible Voting (PPCRV) supports moves to solve past cases of electoral fraud especially the Hello Garci scandal.

Henrietta de Villa, PPCRV chairperson, said that until those accountable for a crime have been revealed and justice has been served, the case cannot be put to rest.

“They should run after all those who had a hand in the mega cheating in the 2004 and 2007 elections,” said de Villa.

Reproductive health” (RH) appears laudable, especially if avowed to help our poverty-challenged people or provide care, information, and other assistance for well-being. Who doesn’t want to be healthy, particularly among our women who bring new life to the world?

But as always, the devil is in the details. If we examine the entire consolidated RH Bill 4244, it totally disregards the unborn. You don’t even find the word “unborn.” On this score, the bill is unconstitutional for it obviously violates Equal Protection.

If the Aquino government really wants to solve the problem of hunger and poverty, it should exercise its “political will” in the right direction: toward defending the rights and interest of the poor majority and the general public.

January 16, 2011

Every time the incidence of hunger worsened during the previous administration, the Arroyo government used to dismiss the findings of the Social Weather Stations (SWS) survey on hunger as subjective... If the Aquino administration is really serious about holding the Arroyo family and their allies accountable for the crimes they committed against the Filipino people, it could not dilly-dally about it nor could it put a glove to the arm of justice.

The Aquino government’s withdrawal of the criminal charges against the Morong 43 shows that Sec. de Lima—unlike her other predecessors—is not keen on accepting “poisoned fruits.”

In fine, tourism is local, not national. And local is about being ourselves in our best.

“Pilipinas Kay Ganda!” This aborted re-branding for the Philippines was supposed to replace “Wow! Philippines.” On TV, DOT Secretary Lim explained that the reason behind this effort was because “Wow! Philippines” was only effective locally and did not work outside the country.

But as it turned, the DOT did a rush job that simply went kaput. Worse, the website for the campaign was only a letter different from a porn site. Sec. Lim then admitted that they did not do their homework. Worst, such “Kay Palpak” is at our expense.
