The celebration of the 26th World Youth Day (WYD) officially ended last August 21, 2011, Sunday. A solemn celebration of the Holy Eucharist at ten o'clock in the morning officiated by the Holy Father, Pope Benedict XVI, capped the momentous event. Attended by more than two million pilgrims from all over the world, the mass was held at Cuatro Vientos Air Base, Madrid, Spain.

Rizal was born in Calamba on June 19, 1861 and was executed in Bagumbayan (now Rizal Park) on Dec. 30, 1896 by the Spanish colonialists.

MANILA, Philippines (June 13 2011) -- Filipinos across the country celebrated the 113th Philippine Independence Day yesterday amid colorful celebration marked by renewed vow by President Benigno C. Aquino III to eradicate the twin scourge of corruption and poverty.

The president spoke at the Aguinaldo Shrine in Kawit, Cavite province after he led the wreath-laying and flag-raising ceremonies at the historic site where Gen. Emilio Aguinaldo declared independence from Spain on the same day in 1898.

“The same issue has gone through many Catholic countries, even more Catholic and devout than us, like Brazil, Portugal, Spain, Italy, but without this traumatic debate and name-calling,” Angara said.
