NABUA, Camarines Sur (Nov 29, 2011) – Cause-oriented journalist organization, the National Union of Journalist of the Philippines (NUJP) Camarines Sur chapter has reiterated its call demanding justice for the slaying of two broadcast journalists in this town early this year and in 2010.

During simple rites held at the Nabua Church to recall the victims of the “Maguindanao Massacre,” NUJP, Camarines Sur chapter president Mark Rodriguez reiterated the call to solve the murders of two broadcasters of DWEB-FM – Mile Belen and Mike Olea.

MANILA, Philippines (Nov 28, 2011) – The death of Moro Islamic Liberation Front (MILF) renegade commnader Ameril Umbra Kato comes close to being confirmed after MILF officials said yesterday that they have information that Kato died Saturday evening.

Von Al-haq, military spokesman for the MILF, confirmed receiving the reports but clarified that these had not been verified...

“That is the information we received, that Kato died yesterday (Nov. 26) night at around past 6 p.m.,” he said in a text message.

MANILA, Philippines (Nov 23, 2011) – As if to remind the nation that  Maguindanao is still a hot spot of deep-seated conflicts, a bomb exploded along a highway leading to  the site of the gruesome Maguindanao massacre that is being commemorated today.

Hundreds were to flock to the massacre site for a mass and ceremonies to remember the 58 people who perished at the site 2 years ago.

The commemorative ceremonies proceeded without any untoward incidents...

MANILA, Philippines – Pasay Regional Trial Court Branch 112 has approved the temporary detention of arrested ex-president Gloria Macapagal-Arroyo at the St. Luke’s Medical Center as she awaits trial for non-bailable offense of electoral sabotage.

 “For humanitarian reasons the motion (for hospital arrest) is granted,” said Judge Jesus Mupas of Pasay City Regional Trial Court (RTC) branch 112.

“The court has agreed to a temporary hospital arrest due to her health condition and for humanitarian reasons,” clerk of court Jose Pelicano told reporters after the court postponed to Friday a hearing on the motions filed by Arroyo’s lawyers.

Instead, the Higher Court gave the former chief executive and other respondents, including former poll chair Benjamin Abalos, 10 days to comment on the findings of the Commission and Election (Comelec) – Department of Justice (DOJ) joint panel...

Also removed from the immigration watchlist were former Justice secretary Alberto Agra, former presidential political adviser Gabriel Claudio, Bong Serrano, Andrei Bong Tagum, Jeremy Javier, and a certain Butch.

Henrietta de Villa, PPCRV chairperson, said that until those accountable for a crime have been revealed and justice has been served, the case cannot be put to rest.

“They should run after all those who had a hand in the mega cheating in the 2004 and 2007 elections,” said de Villa.

Presidential Communications Operations Office Secretary Herminio Coloma asked the police to immediately resolve the ambush of Romeo Olea, a radio commentator of DWEB-FM in Nabua, Camarines Sur.

"We deplore the senseless killing of radio commentator Romeo Olea who was fatally gunned down this morning by still unidentified persons in front of the Holy Child Learning Center in San Jose, Iriga City," said Coloma.
