Taking almost a year to decide that they can work along after all, President Benigno Aquino III finally keeps Jesse M. Robredo in the cabinet as full-fledged Secretary of the Interior and Local Government and turns over to him the supervision of the Philippine National Police (PNP) as well.

“We confirm that last June 13, President Aquino issued an ad interim appointment to Mr. Jesse Robredo as Secretary of Interior and Local Government," Presidential Spokesperson Edwin Lacierda said.

MANILA, Dec. 31 2010  - Interior and Local Government Secretary Jesse M. Robredo on Friday directed all personnel of the Philippine National Police (PNP) in local government units affected by flooding, particularly in several towns in Albay and Sorsogon provinces, to assist in evacuation and rescue operations.

“I call on members of the PNP to exercise their sworn duty of protecting our citizens especially in times of disasters,” said Robredo.

For weeks, anxious Nagueños waited for their multi-awarded former city mayor to get appointed as the secretary of the Department of Interior and Local Government (DILG). Finally, nine days after the inauguration of  Noynoy Aquino as new Philippine President, spokesman Edwin Lacierda announced today that, indeed, Jesse M. Robredo is the new DILG secretary. President Aquino signed Robredo's appointment yesterday.
