MANILA, Philippines (Feb. 11, 2012) - The usefulness  of the statement of assets, liabilities, and net worth (SALN) is now being put to test in holding government employees accountable from the level of Chief Justice who is now under impeachment trial  to that of lower-level positions.

An employee of the state-run Land Bank of the Philippines (LBP) in Davao City failed the government’s lifestyle check after he did not file his statement of assets, liabilities, and net worth (SALN) and allegedly amassed unlawful wealth.

NAGA CITY (3:00 AM, Dec 17, 2011) - Tropical Storm Sendong (Washi) retains it strength - centerwind of 85 kilometers per hour (kph) and gustiness up to 100 kph. - after crossing Agusan Del Sur and Bukidnon late last night, passing near Cagayan De Oro City.

Strong winds and widespread rains are now lashing Western Mindanao and Southern Visayas as Sendong moves West Northwest over Iligan Bay at 26 kilometers per hour (kph) towards the province of Misamis Occidental and the cities of Dapitan and Dipolog, which are just about 100 kilometers (km) away.

NAGA CITY (9:00 AM, Dec 17, 2011) - Maintaining its strength, Tropical Storm Sendong (International name: Washi) now heads for Sulu Sea after passing close to the twin cities of Dipolog and Dapitan and now threatens southern Palawan where it is expected to traverse early Sunday morning.

Sendong still packs a centerwind of 85 kilometers per hour (kph) and gustiness up to 100 kph, which is expected to still intensify as it travels over Sulu Sea at 31 kph in West Northwest direction.

TOKYO (AP) — Sony reported a 27 billion yen ($346 million) loss for the latest quarter and downgraded its annual earnings forecast Wednesday to stay in the red for the fourth year straight, battered by the strong yen and poor sales of flat panel TVs.

NAGA CITY (Oct 24, 2011) - A construction firm implementing a drainage project in this city could be facing charges of negligence after two of its workers died and two others were injured when an 8-meter deep excavation at a project site caved in and buried the victims.

The project's contractor, 4GM Construction firm based in Antipolo City, has not made a public statement on the tragedy. But sources from the city hall say the construction company has administrative and civil liabilities and the city government itself may file the appropriate charges...

SIRTE Libya (Oct 20, 2011) - The circumstances of his death are still unclear but the outcome is that Moammar Gadhafi, who ruled Libya with a dictatorial grip for 42 years until he was ousted by rebels in a bloody civil war, was killed Thursday when revolutionary forces overwhelmed his hometown, Sirte, the last major bastion of resistance two months after the regime fell.

Prime Minister Mahmoud Jibril confirmed Gadhafi had been killed. "We have been waiting for this moment for a long time. Moammar Gadhafi has been killed," Jibril told a news conference in the capital Tripoli.

NAGA CITY (Sep 25, 2011 7:00 P.M.) - As of 6:00 PM today, Typhoon Pedring (NESAT) dangerously moves towards Aurora, Isabela and Quirino Provinces.

Projected Landfall Area (PLA) is Northern Aurora with possible entry point or touchdown just north of Casiguran between 4-5 AM local time Tomorrow (Tuesday).

Renato Eje, LBP Assistant Vice President and regional branch manager, said that this is good news to pensioners of the GSIS as LBP branches in Masbate City, Virac, Catanduanes, and in the cities of Naga and Ligao will provide banking services to accommodate GSIS pensioners very soon.

Mario Maglinao ruled the Jingle Bell Run - Run to Save Our Wetlands13 K event with a time of 40 minutes, trailing behind him was Martin Balaybo both of Albay Runners Club. Local duathlon athlete Franklin Peñalosa managed to outrun other runners which earned him the third place.
