Pope to say Masses in Latin during PH visit

MANILA, Nov. 14, 2014–Pope Francis will celebrate Masses in Latin during his papal visit to the Philippines from January 15 to 19 next year. Pasig Bishop Mylo Hubert Vergara, chairman of the CBCP Commission on Social Communications, said that all the responses, however, will be in English. “The Masses will be in Latin but the responses will be in English,” Vergara said during a press conference on Friday.

British former PM Thatcher dies after stroke

LONDON (Xinhua) - British former Prime Minister Margaret Thatcher has died at the age of 87 after suffering a stroke, her spokesman announced Monday.

The spokesman Lord Bell said: "It is with great sadness that Mark and Carol Thatcher announced that their mother Baroness Thatcher died peacefully following a stroke this morning."

Baroness Thatcher was Conservative prime minister from 1979 to 1990. She was the first woman to hold the post, renowned for the nickname of "Iron Lady" worldwide.

East Asia and Pacific remains bright spot in difficult global landscape

SINGAPORE, December 19, 2012 - Economies of developing East Asia and Pacific remained resilient despite the lackluster performance of the global economy. The World Bank’s latest East Asia and Pacific Economic Update released today, projects the region will grow at 7.5 percent in 2012, lower than the 8.3 percent registered in 2011, but set to recover to 7.9 percent in 2013.
