CAGAYAN DE ORO City, Oct. 7, 2010-President Simeon Benigno "Noynoy" Aquino III's first 100 days in Malacañang were characterized by "missed opportunities" especially in promoting human rights, Amnesty International Philippines (AIPh) said.
"During his first 100 days in office, President Aquino has highlighted serious human-rights issues in the Philippines, but has yet to take concrete action against them," AIPh director Aurora Parong said in an emailed statement.
CAGAYAN DE ORO City, August 29,2010-The bishop of the Diocese of Malaybalay called on the faithful Sunday to remain calm and pray in the aftermath of the Sunday morning grenade attack on a church in Bukidnon that wounded two parishioners.
Bishop Jose Araneta Cabantan also urged the faithful, especially the relatives of the wounded parishioners of the San Vicente Ferrer Parish in Kalilangan, Bukidnon to let law enforcement authorities solve the case and not take justice into their own hands to prevent bloodshed.
CAGAYAN DE ORO CITY --The leader of the Sumilao Farmers, who walked 1,700 kilometers from Bukidnon to Manila in 2007, was shot dead before midnight Friday. Ka Rene Penas, 51, a barangay kagawad of San Vicente, Sumilao, Bukidnon, was on a motorcycle with two other farmers on their way home when they were shot by still unknown assailants.
Ka Rene was hit in the left chest while his companions identified as Eliezer Peñas and Samson Dollete were also injured in the shooting. Police reports said that Ka Rene tried to crawl away from the ambush but was shot again.
