UNEP Prexy Turns 34, Declares University Day
Truly an epitome of simplicity, Atty. Remelisa Afelor-Moraleda, University President of the University of Northeastern Philippines (UNEP) chose to celebrate another chapter of her life with her beloved UNEPians in an unfussy but remarkable event. She opted to offer a mass, as she usually does, to thank the Almighty for another fruitful year, instead of a lavish celebration to mark one of the most important days of her life.
This momentous moment unfolded during the young president's 34th birthday celebration held at the University gymnasium, June 22. Significantly starting the day was the magnificent formation of UNEP's faculty members, personnel and students during the institutional singing of the Philippine National Anthem.
All wearing an immaculate white top, the UNEP Community extended their greetings with a symbolic human formation, depicting the pride and honor of having such a dynamic and young person as their president.
During the mass officiated by Fr. Senen C. Tijam, no less than UNEP's Executive Vice President and VP for Finance, Ms. Deli Alfelor-Tibi, belted a heartwarming and soulful song as she sang the responsorial psalm. Atty. Moraleda also received the seven (7) gifts of the Holy Spirit which coincidentally, was the theme of the consecrated mass.
A short program briefly ensued after the thanksgiving mass where various performances, featuring the versatile and artistic UNEPians were executed. Members of the UNEP Culture and the Arts led the opening salvo.
Not to be left behind were the presentations coming from the world-renowned UNEP Chorale, UNEP Performing Arts, UNEP Band and the uplifting words of tribute for Atty. Moraleda from Mrs. Regina A. Gonzales, UNEP's Alumni Director.
Atty. Moraleda, has nothing but words of thanks for the blessings that she has received for the past years. "Indeed, I have everything to thank God for. Being the young president of this university is not an easy task, but I was guided by His loving Spirit to fulfil its vision and eventually succeeded in making this university the Home of Global Achievers."
The young celebrant also cited her long time dream of seeing every student, all educated and clothed with literacy.
"Poverty should not be a hindrance for us to pursue our dreams, education then should not be a privilege but a must for every student. It is my ultimate dream to see all students graduate from High School, earn a degree, land a reputable job and be the pride of our community."
In closing, the young President announced a university day, declaring a no-classes day in the afternoon for the elementary and high school level. (Lizel S. Macatangay)
