Comelec Bikol Assures Smooth Election Today

LEGAZPI CITY, May 7  - The Commission on Elections (Comelec) regional office in Bikol has assured the public that there will be a smooth and peaceful election this coming Monday, May 10.

Comelec regional director Zacarias Zaragoza said in the radio program "Ugnayan sa Bikol" hosted by the Philippine Information Agency, that the government is very prepared to conduct the election without any delay.

"All registered voters are encouraged to participate in this election and exercise their rights. One must only go to the voting precinct and vote," Zaragoza said.

"The election is not for the commission, we will be there in the polling precinct to serve, because election is for the people," he added.

He also commended the Philippine National Police (PNP) and the Army for performing their task properly. "Army and the PNP are performing properly specially in areas identified by the commission as an election hot spot."

Zaragoza said the situation in Masbate is being addressed properly by the PNP and the Army to ensure peaceful election in this hot spot province in Bikol region.

This time, he said, there is no recommendation from the PNP and the Army to augment additional personnel for deployment in Masbate province. "This simply means that the present number of personnel are truly performing their task."

He also assured that in case of brownout, the Department of National Defense (DND), through the Regional Disaster Coordinating Council (RDCC), is prepared to provide generators in all precincts. "The public has nothing to worry because PCOS machine has a support power generator in case of brownout."

Meanwhile, the Comelec also assured more than 12,000 public school teachers and other election servers throughout Bikol region that they will receive immediately their remuneration. "Their remuneration has been deposited to their respective bank accounts through ATM, however, for those without ATM account they can claim if from their respective treasurer's office of election registrar."
