Image of the Infant Jesus Visits UNEP

Sunday, January 24th, 2010

The unwavering Christly devotion of the UNEPians can be attributed to the legacy of faith that the Alfelors have unselfishly shared to the university, the reason why when the image of infant Jesus visited the University of Northeastern Philippines (UNEP), it was warmly welcomed by the students, faculty members and members of the school administration.

First brought into the island of Cebu City, the little image of the infant Jesus has been roaming every nooks and corners of the world. Now, it has reached his little abode at UNEP where it would temporarily dwell for a 10-day visit which started January 7 and ended on January 17, 2010.

The image was brought to different offices where it would serve as host department for the day.  It will also serve as a venue where devotees could drop by and offer their little prayers of thanks,  recite the chaplet and offer their intentions.  First drop was at the office of Miss Del Alfelor-Tibi, the office of the Vice President for Finance then to its adjoining offices which includes the Property Custodian, Accounting , Auditors and the Registrar's Office.

Known for their deep religiosity, Miss Deli, UNEP's Vice President for Finance and husband Ed, spearheaded the said activity.  The couple has been taking good care of the Santo Niño image for the past 35 years.  They would also join the annual procession of the image in the main thoroughfares of Iriga City being spearheaded by the Saint Anthony of Padua Parish during its feast.

The image also visited the Offices of the Grade School and High School Principals, Main and Unit libraries, Offices of the Deans of Graduate Schools and College of Law, Guidance Director, Media Relations and Human Resource Department.  It was also brought at the Offices of the Dean: College of Education, College of Criminology, College of CAS and CBED, Offices of the Deans of the College of Nursing,CEATD, HRM, MAREd, Office of the Executive Assistant and President's, Divine Mercy Chapel and finally at the St. Anthony of Padua Parish.

The idea of bringing the Santo Niño image at the University was the brainchild of Miss Deli Tibi. " I want to instill the devotion that I have also grown to embrace.  I want every UNEPians to also have that devotion and emulate the childlike virtue of Santo Niño."

"It was for our dear Wawa also, that she may be given strength and more years to be with us," Miss Del said in an interview.    Wawa is UNEP's Matriarch, Dr. Remedios Rigoroso-Alfelor.  Wawa's legacy of devotion continues to serve as an inspiration, not only for her family but for the Irigueños as well.

UNEP President Atty. Remelisa Alfelor-Moraleda said that the university does not only focus on the academic aspect of education. We don't want to produce graduates who are not guided by faith.  We want to produce graduates and achievers who will be equipped with a bright mind and a clean heart." For Atty. Moraleda, it is also important that a leader should be morally upright.

"It is also very important for UNEP that that we look at the moral side of molding our leaders."
