Tribes Promote Products through Diocesan Trade Fair
Bamboo baskets, wooden carvings, soft brooms, honey and local fruit wines are among the best-selling indigenous products the Diocese of Laoag is promoting to visitors.
Parishes in the diocese are encouraged to bring their best products to showcase in trade fairs organized by the Church.
Every year, the diocese allows the use of church compounds, to help promote products produced by parishioners and tribal communities.
“This is one way of helping our parishioners sell their produce,” the organizers said. “[It also] promotes the products to a larger market outside the parishes.”
As the diocese celebrates its jubilee year this week, Father Rock Bonoan facilitated a two-day trade fair at St. Arnold Janssen Hall in Laoag City.
Carmelita Abnasan, 42, one of the exhibitors, said she was thankful that the Church is helping her promote fruit wines from the remote municipality of Adams.
“We always find time to participate in gatherings like this because this is one of the best opportunities for us to have sales,” she said.
While earning from the trade fair, exhibitors said they also find time to thank the Lord when people visit the Church.
