Palo archdiocese to hold ‘Day of Prayer and Remembrance’ for typhoon victims

MANILA, Dec. 2, 2013—Palo Archbishop John Du declared December 8, Feast Day of the Immaculate Conception, as the “Archdiocese Day of Prayer and Remembrance” for all the victims of Super Typhoon Yolanda that hit the region last November 8.

In a text message from Fr. Amadeo Alvero, the archdiocesan spokesperson, all the faithful of the archdiocese are encouraged to gather in their respective parishes on December 8 to pray for the faithful who have lost their lives during the super typhoon.

“A mass will be celebrated and then, a funeral service will follow where all, including all the people of other faiths are invited to [say] a prayer for the victims who have not survived the devastation,” Alvero said.

The archdiocese is encouraging all families to write the names of their loved ones who died during the typhoon.

“A corner in all parishes in the archdiocese will be prepared where the people can write the names of our departed brothers and sisters,” Alvero added.

A triduum (3-day prayer) for the dead will also be held in all parishes before the Day of Prayer and Remembrance.

Archbishop Du enjoined all the faithful of the archdiocese to participate in this day of prayer.

Memorial services will also be held at the grave site on the grounds of Palo Cathedral after the mass at 3 pm.

As of Sunday morning, the National Disaster Risk Reduction Management Council (NDRRMC) reported the death toll at 5,632. Authorities still expect the number to climb as clearing operations continue.  (Jandel Posion)
