Naga City (June 8 2011) – City Administrator Florencio Mongoso Jr. said the city government of Naga shall take over the administration of Plaza Rizal on June 18 this year and the Camarines Sur provincial government has not manifested any opposition.
The Supreme Court has issued a final order affirming that the city of Naga, not the province of Camarines Sur, has the sole right to administer the long-contested public park.
“LGU Naga will introduce more innovations in developing Plaza Rizal for more productive and leisurely use at heart of the city’s business district,” Mongoso said.
A three storey building shall be constructed at the site and shall be a source of revenue for the city government.
According to plans, the ground floor of the proposed building shall be a paid parking area; the second floor and third floor shall house business offices for rent; and the rooftop shall be an open public promenade.
During the administration of former mayor Jesse Robredo, the city filed a declaratory relief in court claiming ownership of Plaza Rizal and the Supreme Court decision ultimately favored the city.
