Masbate Landmine Wounds 3 Army Soldiers

Masbate City, (May 6 2011) - A Philippine Army truck ran over an NPA landmine at MR Espinosa, Milagros, Masbate at 6:30 am today, leaving 3 soldiers wounded.

Army Major Angelo Gusman, Bicol Army Spokesman, identified the  wounded soldiers as Pfc. Joseph Penarada, Pfc. Glenn Manio and Pvt.Erick Dumalagan who all sustained non-fatal shrapnel wounds.

The wounded soldiers were rushed to Aroroy District Hospital.

The group of soldiers led by Major Herera, Ex-O of the army's 9th Infantry Battalion,  was on the way to Aroroy for a military mission.

Guzman said the NPA attack was apparently in retaliation to  recent setbacks suffered by the rebels at the hands of the army, including the arrest of one of their revolutionary tax collectors and the seizure of  high powered firearms that the rebels had hidden under ground but was located with the help of civilian informers.

Major General Josue Gaverza, commanding officer of the 9th Infantry Division of the Philippine Army that covers the entire Bicol region,  immediately ordered hot pursuit operations against the rebels.
