Camarines Norte solon has 2,300 college scholars
DAET, Camarines Norte (Dec 8, 2011) - First termer Camarines Norte 2nd district Representative Elmer Ellaga Panotes has 2,300 college scholars coming from 7 towns of his congressional district, including the capital town of Daet, Vinzons, Talisay, Mercedes, Basud, San Lorenzo Ruiz and San Vicente.
Spokesperson, Marichu Avila, said that the college scholars of the congressman have swelled to such big number as scholarship in college education is a priority of Congressman Panotes.
Considering the prevailing high number of high school graduates who are unable to go to college and “to accommodate even those with poor grades to get college education,” Panotes does not require high scholastic grades of applicants to avail of the scholarship Avila said.
In a recent conference with scholars, all the Congressman asked of his beneficiaries is to strive for good grades.
Under Panotes’ scholarship program, at least 10 poor students in each of the 135 barangays in the 7 towns under his district were given scholarships.
Avila also said that included in the 2,300 scholars are 500 previous scholars of former Camarines Norte Congresswoman Liwayway Vinzons Chato whose benefits were continued under Panotes’ term. (SONNY SALES)
