Juaning weakens after landing in Aurora

Now traversing northern Quirino, Nueva Vizcaya, Ifugao and Benguet

NAGA CITY (July 27, 2011 3:00 P.M.) - Typhoon Juaning initially strengthened after landfall in Dinalungan, Aurora this morning, but has since greatly weakened as it traversed the northern part of Quirino. It is expected to pass Nueva Vizcaya,Ifugao and Benguet in the next few hours. Tropical Storm to Typhoon conditions shall prevail across Aurora, Quirino, Southern Isabela, Nueva Vizcaya, Ifugao and Benguet.

At 12 noon today, the cloud-filled eye of Juaning was located 45 kilometers West of Casiguaran, Aurora or 55 kilometers North of Baler, Aurora or coordinates 16.3º North Latitude 121.7º East Longitude with sustained center wind of 120 kilometers per hour (kph) and gusts up to 150 kph.

As of 2:00 P.M. Juaning has been degraded to Tropical Storm as it travels 15 kph towards Northern Luzon. With diameter of 590 kilometers, Juaning still covers the whole of Northern and Central Luzon, including the Northern part of Bikol region.

Juaning shall further Weaken this evening as it exits Northern Luzon about 50 km West Northwest of San Fernando City, La Union.

Tomorrow morning (Thursday), it shall regain strength as it accelerates across the West Philippine Sea, moving farther away from Luzon. The point of Juaning's exit shall be about 340 kilometers West Southwest of Laoag City, Ilocos Norte.
