GMA Network, Inc., the Philippines’ number one broadcast network, recorded a strong start for the first quarter of 2013 as it continues to dominate competitors in viewer-rich Urban Luzon.
Based on data from January to March 2013 of Nielsen (January 1 to March 16 official data; March 17 to 24 overnight data), GMA registered an average total day audience share of 35.7 percent, up 6.2 points compared to ABS-CBN’s 29.5 points, and up 21.2 points from TV5’s 14.5 percent.
It can be recalled that GMA remained unbeaten in the number one spot in Urban Luzon last year as it strongly posted a 38.2 percent total day average television household audience share based on full 2012 nationwide data of Nielsen. GMA outscored ABS-CBN’s 27.4 percent and TV5’s 14.6 percent by substantial gaps.
GMA also maintained a good position in Urban Visayas and Urban Mindanao for the first three months of 2013 (January 1 to March 16 official data; March 17 to 24 overnight data) in total day household audience shares with 20.3 points and 18.0 points, respectively, as against TV5’s 18.0 and 15.4.
Looking back, GMA garnered 21 percent total day average in Urban Visayas for the full year 2012, 4.7 percent higher than TV5’s. In Urban Mindanao, meanwhile, GMA posted a total day average of 21.2 percent versus TV5’s 17.7 percent.
GMA promises to deliver more quality programs and to reach out to viewers across the nation by bringing Kapuso stars to provincial cities for various regional events and mall shows.
“We are happy that GMA continues to enjoy the support of viewers in Urban Luzon and we acknowledge our share of growing loyal Kapuso viewers in Visayas and Mindanao. Rest assured, we will continue to come up with quality and original programs that will win us more loyal viewers in the regions,” says GMA Network Chairman and CEO Atty. Felipe L. Gozon.
GMA and TV5 subscribe to Nielsen TV Audience Measurement while ABS-CBN is the lone local major TV network that reportedly subscribes to Kantar Media, formerly known as TNS.
