Some Eastern Samar churches not fit for evacuation

MANILA, Dec. 4, 2014— Some Catholic churches in Eastern Samar may not be structurally sound for evacuation as typhoon “Ruby” heads its way towards the province, a local church official said. Fr. Neil Tenefrancia, vice chair of the Borongan Diocesan Commission on Mass Media and Communications, said these churches include the old ones and those in areas devastated by super typhoon Yolanda last year.

Naga City 8:27 PM Dec 06 2014 - With center winds of 175 kph, Typhoon Ruby is still highly destructive but has been greatly downgraded from its former super typhoon status few days back. It is now only 85 kms away from land, located east of Oras, Eastern Samar or 115 kms northeast of Borongan City, Eastern Samar. Gusts up to 230 kph can still inflict serious damages as Ruby drifts generally westward at 12 kph.

Naga City Dec 6, 2014 2:12 A.M. -- The Joint Typhoon Warning Center reverts Hagupit (local name Ruby) to super typhoon status as it moves closer to Eastern Samar. Ruby sustained center wind is now 220 kph with gusts up to 280 kph and is located 295 km east-northeast of Borongan City, Eastern Samar or 495 km east-southeast of Legazpi City, Albay and is moving generally westward (slightly northwesterly) at 13 kph.

Hagupit (local name Ruby) downgraded to typhoon, continues to weaken

Naga City Dec 5 2014 - While remaining a serious threat to Eastern Visayas and the Bicol region, Hagupit (local name Ruby) continues to weaken and has been downgraded to Typhoon. The decrease in force is caused by the initial effect of the surge of the cold Northeast Monsoon on the cyclone.

LEGAZPI CITY, Dec. 4 (PIA) – With the impending threat of typhoon Ruby (with international name: Hagupit) to the Visayas and Bicol regions, organizers decided Wednesday to transfer the venue of the APEC Informal Senior Officials Meeting (ISOM) from this city to Metro Manila.

HAGUPIT local name "Ruby") intensified into a Super Typhoon as it enters the Philippine Area of Responsibility (PAR) at 3:00 this morning. According to Philippine Atmospheric, Geophysical and Astronomical Services Administration (PAGASA) the chance that Ruby shall hit Philippines land mass somewhere in the Eastern Visayas and the Bicol region has increased to 40% and and possibility that it shall recurve upwards has decreased. Land fall is projected to occur in the morning or afternoon of Saturday, December 7th.
