“Dirty money” in illegal logging can be tracked and confiscated—World Bank reports

Washington, March 20, 2012 – Every two seconds, an area of forest the size of a football field is clear-cut by illegal loggers around the globe. A new World Bank report released today shows how countries can effectively fight illegal logging through the criminal justice system, punish organized crime, and trace and confiscate illegal logging profits.

Pulse Asia: Corona innocent in 5%, guilty in 47 % of Pinoys

MANILA, Philippines (Mar 21 2012) - A recent survey by Pulse Asia shows that almost five of ten Filipinos believe that impeached Chief Justice Renato Corona is guilty as charged, in contrast to only 5% who believe he is innocent. The rest of the respondents are as yet cannot decide on his guilt or innocence. The survey was conducted among 1,200 respondents from Feb. 26 to March 9. It was completed while the impeachment court was in recess after 26 days of trial.

Masbate clashes leave 2 rebels dead, firearms confiscated

MASBATE CITY (Mar 19 2012) – Two NPA rebels lay dead in a series of clashes that erupted in different areas in Masbate today, a military official said.

Lt Col Jun Pacatan, Commander of the 9th Infantry Battalion of the Philippine Army said that four separate clashes with NPA rebels happened in his area of responsibility starting at early morning today, March 19.

Last Tuesday, March 13, the sexual harassment complaint filed by former Philippine Olympic Committee President Cristy Ramos, daughter of former President Fidel V. Ramos, against two members of the Philippine Azkals was a topic of discussion in Unang Hirit. During this discussion, certain Unang Hirit hosts voiced their opinions on the matter.

Two days later, March 15, GMA Network received a letter from the Philippine Football Federation or PFF complaining about the commentary of Arnold Clavio and Rhea Santos during that discussion.
