MANILA, Dec. 10, 2012— Catholic bishops will troop to the House of Representatives on Wednesday as the House of Representatives will try to put the “reproductive health” bill to a vote. Ironically, the voting on the controversial population control measure falls on the feast day of the Our Lady of Guadalupe, the patroness of the unborn.

Doc Ferds aids a horse with a tumor

This Wednesday, the vets’ mission to give free medical treatment to domestic animals and wildlife continues. Doc Ferds Recio finds a wildlife sanctuary in Isabela province where animals have not been seen by a vet for three years. Among his patients: a large python with a wound on its snout, and a horse with a tumor. Doc Nielsen Donato meanwhile gives back to his hometown in Laguna by treating domesticated animals that need attention. There he meets horses, pigs, and a monkey chained to a tree branch. But the work is just beginning.

NPA fighter killed in clash with military in Masbate hours before Pacquiao fight

MILAGROS, Masbate (Dec 10, 2012) -- Yesterday morning as millions of Filipinos enthusiastically waited the Pacquiao-Marquez fight, Army soldiers were clashing with New People's Army (NPA) rebels in Esperanza town in this province, resulting in the death of one rebel.

A platoon from the Charlie Company of the 9th Infantry Battalion led by 2nd Lieutenant Bahnarin Camsa was conducting a security patrol in the outskirts of the village when they encountered about 8 NPA fighters in Dumorog village of the said town at around 7:00am.

Shanties of illegal miners in Paracale demolished

DAET, CAMARINES NORTE – The Police Provincial Office (PPO) reported on Saturday (Dec.8) that shanties that serve as dwellings of illegal open pit gold miners in sitio Bulaay in this mining town were finally demolished by personnel of the Camarines Mining Incorporated (CMI) on orders of the Department of Environment and Natural Resources (DENR), Mines and Geosciences Bureau (MGB).

The demolition order was issued by MGB, OIC regional director Roberto D. Sheen and DENR – Environment Management Bureau (EMB) regional director Teodore Rommel E. Pestaño.

Shooting kills a Barangay official in Iriga, wounded 4 in Del Gallego

IRIGA CITY – A Barangay kagawad who was walking to her home in barangay San Vicente Norte in this city was shot dead in the evening of Wednesday (Dec. 5), the Iriga City Police station reported on Thursday morning (Dec.6).

The Iriga City Police identified the fatality as barangay kagawad Marilyn Padua Andalis who died from a lone gun-shot wound and was declared dead on arrival at the Lourdes Hospital in this city.
