SAN PABLO City, Nov. 27, 2011—A priest from the Prelature of Infanta, Quezon joined a group of coconut farmers and various farmers’ coalition in demanding the recovery of the Coco Levy Funds which rightfully belong to the poor coconut farmers.

Eranista, 63, who is ministering the poor tribal settlers in Quezon told this writer that he and his tribal group joined coconut farmers' march from Lucena City (Quezon) to Manila hoping that the poor coconut farmers would finally be given the (coco levy) funds for the rehabilitation of the coconut industry and improvement of the plight of the poor...

Fr. Amado Baranquel, Caritas director in Tripoli, said Filipinos are marooned inside their homes for three days now because of the fighting between the rebels and government forces.

Baranquel told Catholic Church-run Radyo Veritas Wednesday that the violence in Libya has exacerbated even if rebels have claimed victory at Moammar Gadhafi's main military compound in Tripoli.

A priest of Shantou, China, Father Joseph Huang Bingzhang, was ordained today without a papal mandate.

Eight Vatican-approved bishops attended the ordination that took place at St. Joseph’s Cathedral in Shantou city, southern Guangdong province.

Bishop Johan Fang Xingyao of Linyin, president of the government-sanctioned Chinese Catholic Patriotic Association (CCPA), was the main celebrant.

This was revealed by Philippine Charity Sweepstakes Office (PCSO) yesterday. According to reports, the previous management of the agency purchased the vehicles out of its charity fund under questionable justifications.

I considered old people to be out-of-date relics. So, when an old priest asked me and a seminary classmate for some help in his parish, I expected that we would have nothing to learn from him. I was wrong.

I do not know whether I should be rejoicing that the “Sangkaka” is now “malled.” But I would continue writing and investigating its provenance and temperament the same way I would devote time to Chilean and South African wine. After all, to write about the lowly “Sangkaka” is infinitely more rewarding and gratifying than struggling with the death of a General and the overrating of a day called Valentine’s Day.
