MANILA, Dec. 12, 2011— The job as new head of Manila’s Catholic Church started Monday for Archbishop Luis Antonio Tagle who turned emotional as the crowd praised him for his appointment.

“We are grateful to the Holy Father for giving Manila the best in our own,” said Cebu Archbishop Jose Palma, president of the Catholic Bishops’ Conference of the Philippines.

MANILA, Dec. 12, 2011— Archbishop Luis Antonio Tagle has assumed the post as the new head of Manila’s Roman Catholic Church Monday.

Tagle was installed as the 32nd ordinary of the Archdiocese of Manila in a solemn ceremony held at the Minor Basilica of the Immaculate Conception in Manila’s Intramuros district.

During the installation rite, the apostolic letter from Pope Benedict XVI was read appointing Tagle as the new Manila archbishop.

GMA Network, Inc. has appointed Felipe S. Yalong as the Company’s new Executive Vice President effective December 1, 2011.

The new GMA EVP will remain the Company’s Chief Financial Officer and Group Head of its Corporate Services Group.

Yalong is a key figure behind GMA Network's IPO in 2007. He has played a crucial role in the Network’s phenomenal rise in revenues and profit since GMA Network Chairman and CEO Felipe L. Gozon and President and COO Gilberto R. Duavit, Jr. took over the Company’s management a decade ago. 

GMA Network, Inc. has appointed Felipe S. Yalong as the Company’s new Executive Vice President effective December 1, 2011.

MANILA, Philippines – Pasay Regional Trial Court Branch 112 has approved the temporary detention of arrested ex-president Gloria Macapagal-Arroyo at the St. Luke’s Medical Center as she awaits trial for non-bailable offense of electoral sabotage.

 “For humanitarian reasons the motion (for hospital arrest) is granted,” said Judge Jesus Mupas of Pasay City Regional Trial Court (RTC) branch 112.

“The court has agreed to a temporary hospital arrest due to her health condition and for humanitarian reasons,” clerk of court Jose Pelicano told reporters after the court postponed to Friday a hearing on the motions filed by Arroyo’s lawyers.

MANILA, Philippines (Nov 2, 2011) – Sibling rivalry over money is thought to have resulted in the killing of 23-year-old actor-politician Ram Revilla (Ramgen Jose Bautista in real life) and 2 of his younger siblings have been nabbed and charged for conspiring to kill him last Oct 28.

Ma. Ramona Belen Bautista, 20; and Ramon Joseph Bautista, 18, were charged with murder together with five others accused of helping them execute the killing in the Bautista residence in BF Homes, Parañaque.

“The motive is personal,” city police chief Senior Superintendent Billy Beltran said without elaborating.

GMA Network unveils the latest addition to its slate of innovative programs for the last quarter of 2011 with the much awaited debut of DALDALITA. It will replace Futbolilits beginning October 17 on GMA Telebabad.

GOA, Camarines Sur (Oct 10, 2011) - Mt. Isarog, a protected area and the main source of potable water for a city and several municipalities surrounding its base is getting deforested at an alarming rate particularly in the Partido side of this province.

Logging has long been prohibited in Mount Isarog and its continuing destruction is blamed on the usual culprits - the timber poachers and the charcoal makers in the upland barangays in the towns of Goa and Lagonoy.
