Naga City (June 27) – Poles apart in their positions, Camarines Sur Governor L-Ray Villafuerte and 4th district Congressman Noli Fuentebella embraced each other after a heated debate on the issue of partitioning the province of Camarines Sur during a summit held at the amphitheatre of the University of Saint Anthony (USANT) in Iriga City.

Naga City (June 27) – Poles apart in their positions, Camarines Sur Governor L-Ray Villafuerte and 4th district Congressman Noli Fuentebella embraced each other after a heated debate on the issue of partitioning the province of Camarines Sur during a summit held at the amphitheatre of the University of Saint Anthony (USANT) in Iriga City.

Fuentebella and Villafuerte attended the event as guests but the listed speakers deferred to them to allow the two highest officials in the thick of the partition debate to hash out the pros and cons of the issue.

There are many causes of diabetes that people are not even aware of. The fact is that this disease is not friendly in any way as it causes more harm than good. Therefore, it must be avoided as much as possible. The only way by which the disease can be avoided is to identify its causes and guide against those causes. Avoiding its causes will go a long way in controlling the disease.

Causes of diabetes include excess consumption of sugar and high quantity of refined carbohydrates. Other causes of diabetes can be due to voracious eating, overweight and obesity. This ailment develops in all age categories but it is more frequent among older and middle aged people. As a result of people's eating habits nowadays, there are many cases of this deadly disease compared to what was obtainable some years back.

Malolos City, Philippines (June 12 2011) – The Diocese of Malolos headed by Bishop Jose Francisco Oliveros held a “Bulacan Rally for Life” meant to show legislators that Bulacan province is against the Reproductive Health (RH) Bill.

Echoing the standard stance of the Catholic Church elsewhere in the world on matters pertaining to population management, protesters asked lawmakers to stop wasting time on deliberating RH Bill and to focus instead on economic development.

Batasan Pambansa, Quezon City (May 12, 2011) – “The controversial Reproductive Health Bill (RH Bill) will surely pass congress.” This was the brave prediction of Congressman Edsel Lagman of the 1st District of Albay as he warned the Catholic Church of the inevitable outcome of the reproductive health debate. During the press conference of the Lakas-Kampi party  yesterday, May 11, Lagman was even cocksure of the passage of the RH bill into a law.

I do not know whether I should be rejoicing that the “Sangkaka” is now “malled.” But I would continue writing and investigating its provenance and temperament the same way I would devote time to Chilean and South African wine. After all, to write about the lowly “Sangkaka” is infinitely more rewarding and gratifying than struggling with the death of a General and the overrating of a day called Valentine’s Day.

In Ateneo de Naga University, the student photographers of the Department of Media Studies have photographed the Bikol River, or at least its vanishing, dying tributary called the Naga River. In the process, they are discovering what the great photographer of monumental landscapes, Ansel Adams, thinks of photograph as "that instrument of love and revelation."

(The exhibit from students of Department of Media Studies was caught between the Tercentenary celebration of the devotion to our Lady of Peñafrancia and the semester break that followed it. This article pays tribute to the young artists and saw publication on the Art Page of Business Mirror where the author is the resident Art And Media Critic.)

Catholic Bishops' Conference of the Philippines (CBCP) Chair on Youth Apostolate, Bishop Joel Baylon, has joined his voice to those which call for the abolition of the Sanggunian Kabataan (SK). The massive instances of vote-buying and irregularities prior and during the just concluded Barangay and SK polls had convinced the Legazpi prelate that the SK, "lofty" though its goals may be, has proven to be "a corrupting influence on the youth."
