Sayod kong Tataramon (National Commission for Culture and the Arts, 2009) by Carlos A. Arejola (left, back row) was among the five literary titles cited in the 10th Madrigal Gonzalez Best First Book Award.
Also cited were Batbat ni Udan (Central Books) by Telesforo Sungkit, Jr.; Tugmaang Matatabil: Mga Akdang Sinulat sa Libingan ng mga Buhay (Southern Voices) by Axel Pinpin; Kantilaho (University of Santo Tomas Publishing House) by Joseph Saguid, and Agaw-Dilim, Agaw-Liwanag (University of the Philippines Press) by Lualhati Abreu (front, center), which eventually won the top honors in the said first-time author book award, given December 10, 2010 at the Toyota Hall of Wisdom of the University of the Philippines in Diliman.
The five books were chosen from literary titles in Filipino published in 2008 and 2009. Three other books by Bikol authors have been cited in the past by the Madrigal Gonzalez Best First Book Award, to wit: Mga Tulang Tulala by Kristian S. Cordero, Antispasyon by Victor Dennis T. Nierva, and Ang Sandali ng mga Mata by Alvin B. Yapan.
