WikiLeaks: Kristie Kenny lobbied vs cheaper medicine law

 

MANILA, Philippines - The multinational drug companies were worried that the cheaper medicine act would decrease their profitability in the Philippines and put former US ambassador to the Philippines, Kristie Kenny, to task to prevent its passage or water down its final version. But the law's sponsors in Congress resisted the US pressure.

The online whistle-blower WikiLeaks reported that the United States lobbied against the Cheaper Medicine Act in the Philippines after American stakeholders expressed concern about the possible changes in the country’s pharmaceutical policies...

Syrians protests to continue during Ramadan

Syrian troops stormed the restive city of Hama on Sunday, the day before the start of the Islamic holy month of Ramadan. Tanks have now been shelling the city for three days. A human rights organisation reported 136 people were killed across the country on Sunday. Syrian protestors have vowed to demonstrate every night during Ramadan.
