MANILA, Dec. 1, 2011— Archbishop of Cebu, Jose Palma officially assumed leadership of the Catholic Bishops’ Conference of the Philippines (CBCP) Thursday.

Palma, a native of Dingle, Iloilo, becomes the 19th president of the bishops’ collegial body.

At the weekly Kapihan sa Senado, Drilon said the main reason for Corona to inhibit himself was his being chief of staff and spokesman of Arroyo when she was vice president.

MANILA, August 17, 2011— A ranking Catholic Church official urged the faithful to defend the sanctity of human life now that the reproductive health bill is one of the Aquino administration’s priority measures.

Filipinos must oppose measures that go against the basic values of life and marriage, said Cebu Archbishop Jose Palma, vice president of the Catholic Bishops’ Conference of the Philippines (CBCP).

MANILA, July 10, 2011—After two years, Tandag Bishop Nereo Odchimar has decided to vacate the Catholic Bishops’ Conference of the Philippines (CBCP) highest post in December.

Filling his shoes is 61-year old Cebu Archbishop Jose Palma, the current vice president of the bishops’ collegial body.

In electing Palma as the CBCP president, the bishops broke a long-time practice in the Catholic hierarchy.

By tradition, Odchimar is supposed to assume the presidency for two terms or a cumulative of four years.

Bikolano War Veterans hold their annual assembly in Naga City on Saturday, April 30, 2011. According to Commander Lope Rili, Sr., Vice President for Bikol of the Veterans Federation of the Philippines, an estimated 300 veterans coming from the six provinces and seven cities of Region 5 shall attend the one-day assembly at Champagne Garden Reception Center in Taal Avenue, Naga City.

Even before the execution, one could already feel the somber mood of the people being shown in television coverages. It’s as if time stood still until the announcement that the three were already dead.
