It was a close escape for the Falcons as they got their sixth win in eight outings in UAAP Season 74 men’s basketball tournament at the Smart Araneta Coliseum.

The 6-2 Nuyles eluded La Salle’s Oda Tampus with a spin move then unleashed a jump shot that found nothing but net with 0.8 second left.

MANILA, Philippines (Aug 5, 2011) - University of the Philippines Fighting Maroons needed a second half surge to upset Far Eastern Universiy Tamaraws to snatch a stunning 73-63 triumph in the 74th UAAP men's basketball at the Araneta Coliseum today.

It was an upset only in the sense that the Maroons, consistently the cellar dweller in previous seasons, had an unflattering 0-14 record last year whereas the Tamaraws were the runners-up.

Earlier, Ateneo coach Norman Black rightly anticipated a tough game with Adamson, which has the potential to derail their run for a 4th straight championship in UAAP basketball.

State-run UP in Diliman, Quezon City is the country's top English-teaching university this year, ranking 34th in the world with score of 43.70, followed closely by private school AdeMU in Loyola Heights at 35th place with 42.80.
