Like many in this caroling season, Lola Lydia performs in crowded streets in Manila where listeners may be willing to part with some change. But she is an unusual sight for one reason -- she plays the violin, a lonely musician in a city where many do not recognize, much less appreciate, the sweet-sounding classical instrument.

Howie Severino and his documentary team encounter Lola Lydia in Baclaran where she is trying to earn enough from street performing so she can go home to Pangasinan for Undas to visit the grave of her mother, who taught her to play. Lola Lydia still plays the broken violin that she inherited from her mother.

Daldalita, GMA Network’s newest family-oriented drama series, instantly captivated the hearts of TV audiences after garnering high numbers during its pilot week, according to data from the industry’s widely trusted ratings service provider Nielsen TV Audience Measurement.

Based on household data recorded in Urban Luzon for October 17 to 21 (based on overnight data), Daldalita scored 36.5 share points, ahead of ABS-CBN’s Maria La Del Barrio’s 26 points and TV5’s Aksyon’s 22 points. Urban Luzon makes up 77 percent of total television households nationwide.

Leading Philippine broadcast station GMA Network, Inc. (GMA) closed September with a strong win in national television ratings against ABS-CBN and TV5.

In fact, national viewership from the start of 2011 till the closing of the nine-month period showed a trending that establishes GMA as the top choice among the country’s free-to-air channels. Data come from broadcast industry’s most widely trusted ratings service provider Nielsen TV Audience Measurement.

Total day (6am-12mn) household audience share data in September (September 25 to 30 based on overnight readings) show that GMA was the most preferred channel in National Urban Philippines relative to ABS-CBN and TV5, clinching 34.1 share points, 4.1 points ahead of ABS-CBN’s 30 points, and almost twice TV5’s 17.3.

On its first week of airing (August 8-12), GMA-7’s new primetime Koreanovela, Big Thing registered a high average rating of 23.7% in Mega Manila households beating all counterpart programs.

On its first week of airing (August 8-12), GMA-7’s new primetime Koreanovela, Big Thing registered a high average rating of 23.7% in Mega Manila households beating all counterpart programs.

Big Thing defeated its rival program, The Biggest Loser Pinoy Edition, which scored an average of 15.9% in the same period. This is according to overnight data gathered by the more widely recognized TV ratings data supplier, Nielsen TV Audience Measurement.

Eight-year-old Youtube singing sensation Leana Tabuñar is now a certified Kapuso after singing with GMA yesterday, August 10 at GMA Network Center . Her debut appearance in the Sunday musical-variety show Party Pilipinas is on August 21. She will be a mainstay of Party Pilinas and will also appear in other GMA programs.

Quezon City , Philippines (August 2, 2011) – – Leading broadcast company GMA Network, Inc. (GMA) showed strong momentum in the first half of 2011 as it improved regular advertising revenues and nationwide ratings – the industry players’ two most important performance indicators – quarter-on-quarter.

Given GMA’s sustained nationwide dominance since the start of the year, GMA posted a 14 percent increase worth P449 million in consolidated revenues to P3.587 billion in the second quarter from the previous quarter’s P3.138 billion.
