PILI, Camarines Sur (Dec 8, 2011) – The Department of Agriculture (DA) has earmarked P220.300 million for farm to market roads in the Bicol region that will start construction on January 2012.

DA Bicol regional director Jose Dayao said on Friday (Dec. 2) that in view of the worldwide climate change, the Aquino government’s thrust on food security shall give importance to building  infrastructure in rural areas, including irrigation facilities,  to support strategic agricultural zones.

FORT BONIFACIOTaguig City (Nov. 30, 2011) – Rebels who fled the relentless pursuit operations of the Army in the province of Masbate suffered another humiliating defeat in the hands of government forces in Sorsogon, a military official said.

Lt. Col Teody Toribio, Commanding Officer of the 31st IB stationed in Juban town in Sorsogon said that his unit dealt a decisive blow against the Masbate-based rebels during an encounter at about 2:00pm yesterday, Nov 29, which yielded 8 high-powered rifles.

volcano that poses risks to communities.

Congressman Sal Fortuno, chairman of the House Bicol Recovery Committee, said various government agencies shall present before the Bicol lawmakers their respective assessments, action plans as well as progress reports on ongoing tasks.

The flood in the Rinconada area and Naga City shall be among the urgent matters to be discussed.

The Regional Disaster Risk Reduction Management Council (RDRRMC), said that Juaning caused the death of 32 people in the Bikol region - 12 in Albay, 6 in Catanduanes, 6 in Camarines Norte, 5 in Camarines Sur, 2 in Masbate and 1 in Sorsogon.

NAGA City (July 25, 2011 6:00 PM)  - Tropical Depression Juaning continues to accelerate, now moving northwestward - just to the east of Catanduanes. Its rainbands are spreading across the Bicol Region and Samar Provinces including Southern Quezon.

As of 6:00 PM today, the tropical depression was located 180 kilometers East Norheast of Virac, Cartanduanes at coordinates 14.0º North Latitude 125.8º East Longitude packing ceterwind of 55 kilometers per hour and gustiness up to 75 kilometers per hour, moving at 17 kilometers per hour towards Isabela-Cagayan area.

The agency said OWWA database records indicated that the 251 OFWs are residents of Bikol and are presently working in Libya. Of these, 98 are from Camarines Sur; Albay, 85; Camarines Norte, 29; Sorsogon, 25; Catanduanes, 8; and Masbate, 6.
