LEGAZPI CITY, Philippines  (Dec 11, 2011) – After the successful revival of its Manila-Naga route back in July this year, the Bicol Express can now reach the province of Albay down south.

A test train travel, which the Philippine National Railways (PNR) called an “explorer run,”  started at Tutuban Central Station at 10:05 P.M. Wednesday  (Dec 7) and ended at Ligao City Thursday (Dec 8) for a total travel time of 12 and a half hours, more than two hours past the advertised 10-hour travel time.

LEGAZPI City (July 1, 2011) – Rescue teams of the Philippine Navy, using 2 sea vessels and an aircraft, have ended the search for 10 missing fishermen from Ligao City and the towns of Virac and Bato in Catanduanes province.

An official report on Thursday, (June 30) from the Office of the Civil Defence (OCD) Bicol office and the Regional Disaster Risk Reduction Management Council (RDRRMC) bared that the 10 fishermen lost at sea and will not be searched anymore were identified as:

Rosa Ordan, 54, barangay Basag, of Ligao City;

Legazpi City (23 March 2011) – Fernando Quililan, new Regional Director of the DENR announced a big contest intended for the welfare of the environment in the Bikol region.

Legazpi City (23 March 2011) – Fernando Quililan, new Regional Director of the DENR announced a big contest intended for the welfare of the environment in the Bikol region.

This coming June 1, 2011, the Baligang/Gumihan Contest will be launched at DENR Office in Legazpi. All six provinces and seven cities in Bikol are expected to participate in the said contest.

According to Dir. Quililan, for every five kilos of baligang delivered to his office will get a price of Php 15,000 and just one piece of gumihan will get a price of Php 50,000.

Legazpi City (21 January 2011)-- No damage was wrought on Albay’s forestland after three weeks of continuous heavy rains that bombarded the province which caused flooding and landslide in several disaster susceptible areas, reported the regional DENR office in this city.

“Technical staff from the field reported zero forest damage in spite of the torrential rains that poured and caused massive flooding and landslide in high risk areas” said Forester Rodolfo Matusalem, Provincial Environment and Natural Resources Officer of Albay.

Legazpi City (8 December) -- In a joint maritime law enforcement patrol, operatives of the Naval Forces Southern Luzon (Navforsol) and Albay Provincial Fishery Office (APFO) apprehended F/B Draven Cedrick for illegal fishing activities around 2:40 am on December 5, 2010 at vicinity about four nautical miles off south of Barangay Maonon, Ligao City, a navy officer disclosed to PIA News Service.
