Msgr. Tantoco, ex-Caritas Manila director, dies at 75

MANILA, May 23, 2014— Monsignor Francisco Tantoco, Jr., former Caritas Manila executive director, died on Friday after around a decade bout with Parkinson’s disease. He was 75.

Tantoco was rushed to San Juan De Dios Hospital inPasay City at 9pm yesterday after his condition exacerbated. He passed away at 6:45am today.

Bishop joins calls for De Lima to release pork-scam list

MANILA, May 7, 2014 — A Catholic bishop has joined the growing calls for Justice Secretary Leila De Lima to release the list of lawmakers allegedly involved in the P10-billion pork barrel scam.

Batanes Bishop Camilo Gregorio said that the DOJ chief should divulge the contents of Janet Lim Napoles’ affidavit for the sake of transparency and accountability.

Baguio diocese to hold vigil, fast vs RH Law

BAGUIO CITY, April 7, 2014 – With the upcoming final deliberation of the Supreme Court (SC) on the Reproductive Health (RH) Law set on April 8, Baguio Bishop Carlito Cenzon D.D. rallied the faithful to a prayer vigil and fasting from today until April 8 in hopes that the controversial law will be declared unconstitutional.

Whatever SC ruling on RH, Church remains pro-life

BAGUIO City, April 7, 2014— Whatever the Supreme Court rules on the controversial birth control law, the Catholic Church will not give up its teachings on family and life.

“With or without the SC’s decision, it is the duty of the Church to be teaching life. Our duty does not depend on civil laws, our duties come from God,” said Catholic Bishops’ Conference of the Philippines president Archbishop Socrates Villegas.
