Some Eastern Samar churches not fit for evacuation

MANILA, Dec. 4, 2014— Some Catholic churches in Eastern Samar may not be structurally sound for evacuation as typhoon “Ruby” heads its way towards the province, a local church official said. Fr. Neil Tenefrancia, vice chair of the Borongan Diocesan Commission on Mass Media and Communications, said these churches include the old ones and those in areas devastated by super typhoon Yolanda last year.

MANILA, Nov. 28, 2014— More than a thousand young Filipinos will greet Pope Francis upon his arrival in Manila. Parañaque Bishop Jesse Mercado, chairman of the papal visit arrival and departure committee, said some 1,200 youths will greet him at the Villamor Airbase in Pasay City “with vibrant music and dance.”

Church body gives 1,813 ‘Yolanda’ families new homes for Christmas

MANILA, Nov. 28, 2014—Some 1,813 families who had lost their houses to typhoon “Yolanda” (Haiyan) in 2013 are happy to tell the world they will be celebrating their first Christmas in brand-new shelters given to them by the Church’s social action arm.
